HDFC Bank Chairman Rajiv Kumar has announced that the recent merger with HDFC Ltd is beginning to yield substantial business advantages, particularly through increased cross-selling and enhanced customer engagement. Speaking at the bank's 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), Kumar emphasized that the merged entity is well-positioned for its next phase of growth, underpinned by technological advancements and an expanded suite of financial services.
Meaningful Synergies Emerge from Merger
Kumar highlighted the tangible impact of the integration, stating, "The merger with HDFC Limited has already begun unlocking meaningful synergies." He pointed to robust cross-selling activities between the bank and its subsidiaries, noting a key success metric: "over 95% of new-to-bank home loan customers now open Savings Accounts with us, strengthening primacy."
The mortgage business, according to Kumar, offers HDFC Bank a unique opportunity to cultivate deeper, long-term customer relationships. By leveraging the extended tenure and emotional connection associated with mortgage products, the bank aims to become the primary financial institution for a broader customer base, thereby enhancing its overall franchise strength.
Expanded Franchise and Future Growth Outlook
The enlarged franchise enables HDFC Bank to cater more holistically to a diverse range of customer needs, spanning investments, protection products, and long-term financial requirements. This comprehensive approach is designed to foster more profound and valuable customer relationships.
Looking ahead, Kumar expressed confidence that HDFC Bank is at a pivotal moment, poised for significant future growth. This optimism stems from the bank's enduring commitment to a customer-first philosophy and strategic investments in technology-led execution. "With technology platforms modernized and distribution deepened across India, we stand at a pivotal moment — ready to deliver significantly stronger business outcomes," he affirmed.
Operating Performance and Strategic Focus
The bank anticipates building on its recent operational momentum, committing to continued reinvestment in technology and operating platforms. These investments are aimed at boosting productivity, improving customer experience, and ensuring systems remain future-ready. Key strategic priorities include focused customer acquisition, strengthened deposit growth, targeted retail and MSME lending, and unwavering asset quality.
These remarks follow HDFC Bank's first-quarter FY27 results, which saw a 5% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹19,059 crore, and a 6.7% rise in net interest income to ₹33,534 crore. Provisions significantly declined to ₹3,060 crore from ₹14,441 crore in the prior year, despite a marginal sequential deterioration in asset quality, with gross NPA increasing to 1.17% from 1.15%.
