Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has officially launched its advanced smart manufacturing plant in Talegaon, Pune, marking a significant step in its three-decade presence in the country. The state-of-the-art facility, built with AI-enabled Industry 4.0 technologies, represents an investment of ₹11,000 crore phased over time.

Strategic Growth and Production Capacity

The new Pune plant begins operations with an annual production capacity of 170,000 units, with plans to expand this significantly to 320,000 units by 2030. This facility is designed with flexible production systems capable of manufacturing multiple models, including conventional internal combustion engine vehicles and future hybrid models.

Notably, the plant will exclusively produce the all-new Hyundai VENUE for global markets, with exports slated to reach over 35 countries. This move reinforces India's growing importance as a global export hub for Hyundai Motor Group.

Milestones and Future Commitments

The inauguration coincides with Hyundai's achievement of crossing 4 million cumulative passenger vehicle exports from India since 1999, making it the first automobile manufacturer in the country to reach this milestone.

Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized India's strategic importance, stating, "India remains one of Hyundai's most important and strategic markets globally. The inauguration of the Pune plant reflects our long-term commitment to India's growth and our confidence in its bright future."

Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, added that the Pune plant signifies "the beginning of HMIL’s next chapter of growth in India," highlighting its potential to drive industrial development, innovation, and employment generation in the region.

Broader Investment in India

Hyundai Motor Group has outlined a comprehensive investment strategy for India, committing $15.5 billion from 2026 through 2032. This substantial investment will cover manufacturing expansion, research and development (R&D) infrastructure, cultivation of local suppliers for parts localization, and innovation in future technologies, aiming to foster a robust automotive industry ecosystem in India.

The Group also maintains a significant domestic footprint through its affiliates, including Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Transys, Hyundai Capital, Hyundai Wia, and Hyundai Glovis, further bolstering its operations and contribution to the Indian automotive sector.

The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of prominent figures including Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Sunetra Ajit Pawar, and Republic of Korea Ambassador to India Seong-ho Lee.
