The proposed investment, which is expected to be executed over the next 18 to 24 months, will fund critical projects including the construction of new railway tracks, platforms, and comprehensive network upgrades. These improvements are slated for border states such as Punjab, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, and various states in the Northeast.
Strategic Focus on Border Connectivity
This planned program is estimated to account for nearly 22% of the total railway infrastructure spending earmarked for the upcoming two years. This highlights the Narendra Modi-led government's intensified focus on bolstering connectivity and logistics in strategically important border regions.
The latest investment blueprint signifies a significant expansion of the government's border infrastructure push, building upon previously announced plans. It complements a $3.4 billion railway development program reported earlier, which concentrated on establishing new rail corridors, bridges, and tunnels across India's northeastern region. The broader initiative underscores a long-term strategy to enhance transport links, improve logistical capabilities, and reinforce infrastructure along the nation's sensitive border areas.
