Shares of Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JP Power) experienced a significant surge, climbing nearly 14% in early trading sessions. This sharp upward movement followed the company's announcement of an agreement to settle a major financial claim.
Claim Settlement Paves Way for IBC Withdrawal
JP Power informed stock exchanges that it has agreed to a full and final settlement of a claim, subject to a payment of Rs 511 crore. The completion of this payment, along with other specified conditions and the execution of a definitive agreement, is expected to result in the withdrawal of insolvency proceedings currently underway against the company under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
The company stated, "The IBC proceedings will stand withdrawn once all the conditions of settlement terms are fulfilled. The company will keep the stock exchanges informed of any further developments in this matter." This development brings a potential resolution to a long-standing financial issue, which analysts believe has positively impacted investor sentiment.
Adani Power's Stake and Future Outlook
Earlier, effective May 21, 2026, Adani Power acquired a 24% stake in JP Power. This acquisition occurred following the implementation of the approved resolution plan for Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL). JP Power expressed optimism regarding this partnership, stating, "We believe that we shall benefit from Adani Power's experience in the conceptualization, design, development, construction and operation of power plants, and will be able to manage multiple aspects of power projects, from front-end engineering design to completion, operation and maintenance."
Despite recent media reports suggesting that Adani Power might increase its stake in JP Power to 51% by the end of 2026, Adani Power clarified that such reports were false, stating they had not undertaken any such action.
Analyst Views on JP Power Shares
Market experts offered mixed technical and investment outlooks on Jaiprakash Power shares. Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services, noted that Rs 17.50 serves as an immediate resistance level for the stock. He added, "The broader technical structure remains weak, with the stock still trading below its key moving averages. The current move appears to be a technical pullback rather than a trend reversal. Fresh buying is not recommended at current levels, while a sustained move above Rs 17.50 could improve the technical setup."
Kranthi Bathini, Equity Strategist at WealthMills Securities, characterized JP Power as "more of a speculative stock" suitable only for investors with a high-risk appetite. Conversely, AR Ramachandran, a Sebi-registered research analyst at Tips2trades, maintained a bullish stance, stating, "JP Power stock price is bullish on daily charts with strong support at Rs 15.37. A daily close above the resistance of Rs 16.8 could lead to an upside target of Rs 19.28 in the near term."
