· · 2 min read

Domestic LPG, CNG, and PNG prices for June 22 have been announced across major Indian cities. Rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru reflect recent global supply shifts and government efforts to manage costs.

Fuel consumers across India are checking the latest prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as rates for June 22 have been released. These prices continue to be influenced by international developments, including the recent resolution of the conflict in West Asia.

Global Shifts Impacting Fuel Prices

The United States and Iran have reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding to cease hostilities, leading to the reopening of the crucial Strait of Hormuz. This development has helped ease concerns over global fuel supplies and prices, although underlying issues between the two nations remain unresolved. Oil tankers have resumed passage through the Strait, and the US has lifted its blockade on Iran, with both countries given 60 days to finalize agreements on Iran's nuclear program and financial incentives.

Government Actions and Supply Diversification

Despite the easing of global tensions, the cost of supplying a domestic LPG cylinder has significantly risen, with estimates exceeding ₹1,600 due to international price surges linked to past conflicts. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that price increases were unavoidable given the global situation, citing limited LPG sources and increased procurement and transportation costs.

Conversely, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri affirmed that India faces no energy shortage and maintains a comfortable supply situation for crude oil, LPG, and natural gas. India has actively diversified its LPG sourcing, reducing dependence on the Gulf region by increasing imports from the United States, Iran, Argentina, Chile, France, and the Netherlands. A Crisil report highlighted that by April 2026, the United States accounted for nearly one-third of India's LPG imports, up from 8 percent in February, supported by a 2.2 million tonne-a-year supply agreement signed in late 2025.

This diversification strategy, while ensuring supply during disruptions, has led to longer supply chains and higher freight costs. Consequently, LPG consumption saw a decline, falling to 2.47 million tonnes in April from 3.2 million tonnes in February, with commercial and industrial users being more responsive to price changes and supply constraints.

Future Outlook

A recent report suggested that domestic refiners might be directed to maintain larger crude oil inventories to preemptively address potential future supply concerns, aiming to stabilize the market amidst ongoing geopolitical shifts.
