NSE IPO Draws Strong Investor Interest on Final Day
The initial public offering (IPO) of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) concluded its bidding period on September 21, 2026, receiving a robust response from investors. By the end of Day 3, the issue was subscribed 1.73 times overall, demonstrating significant market confidence in India's largest stock exchange.
Retail investors showed strong participation, booking 94 percent of their allocated portion. The employee reserved segment saw a subscription of 1.91 times, while non-institutional investors (NIIs) subscribed 2.88 times. Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) also showed considerable interest, with their portion being subscribed 2.25 times.
Issue Details and Anchor Investor Contribution
The NSE IPO, one of the largest on record in India, had a price band set between Rs 1,700 and Rs 1,785 per share. The offer for sale (OFS) component amounted to Rs 22,562 crore. At the upper end of the price band, the NSE's market capitalisation is estimated at approximately Rs 4.42 lakh crore. Each share has a face value of Re 1, with a market lot comprising 8 equity shares. Eligible employees were offered a discount of Rs 170 per share.
Ahead of the public subscription, NSE successfully allocated shares worth Rs 6,746 crore to anchor investors. This prominent list included sovereign wealth funds from Norway and Abu Dhabi. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) emerged as the largest anchor investor, acquiring shares worth Rs 400 crore, which constituted 5.93 percent of the anchor book. Other key participants in the anchor round included the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Norway's Government Pension Fund, and asset manager Fidelity.
Financial Overview and Listing Outlook
In terms of recent financial performance, NSE's revenue from operations stood at Rs 16,601.31 crore in FY26, a slight decrease from Rs 17,140.68 crore in FY25. Profit after tax (PAT) also saw a moderation, declining to Rs 10,302.06 crore in FY26 from Rs 12,187.69 crore in the previous fiscal year. Operating EBITDA was Rs 11,097.90 crore in FY26, down from Rs 12,646.88 crore in FY25, with corresponding margins also showing a slight dip.
The tentative listing date for NSE shares on the stock exchanges is scheduled for September 24, 2026, marking a significant event in the Indian primary market.
