Prime Minister Narendra Modi will disburse the 23rd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme on June 20, transferring ₹18,880 crore to over 9.44 crore farmers nationwide. The event, held in West Bengal, also includes the launch of new agricultural and rural development initiatives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on June 20. During his visit to Hooghly district in West Bengal, the Prime Minister will directly transfer ₹18,880 crore into the bank accounts of more than 9.44 crore farmers across India.

This latest payout will elevate the total disbursement under the flagship income-support scheme to over ₹4.46 lakh crore since its inception in 2019. The initiative aims to bolster the financial stability of small and marginal farmers nationwide through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Significant Boost for West Bengal Farmers

Farmers in West Bengal are also poised to receive substantial benefits from this installment. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan confirmed that over 45.35 lakh farmers in the state will collectively receive approximately ₹907 crore. With this upcoming transfer, the cumulative amount disbursed under PM-KISAN within West Bengal will surpass ₹15,055 crore, further strengthening the income security of the region's agricultural community.

New Crop Insurance Schemes Launched

Beyond the PM-KISAN disbursement, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal. These schemes, with a combined outlay of approximately ₹12,200 crore, are designed to provide crucial financial protection to farmers against crop losses.

The government's ambitious plan for 2026-27 aims to extend crop insurance coverage to about 1.10 crore farmers, encompassing 30 lakh hectares of agricultural land and protecting crops valued at roughly ₹28,140 crore.

Introducing an Advanced Agri-Tech Platform

Under the Digital Agriculture Mission, PM Modi will unveil a new Agri-Tech platform. This integrated interface is designed to streamline access to essential agricultural services, including fertiliser distribution, Kisan Credit Cards, DBT services, and Minimum Support Price (MSP)-based government procurement. The platform seeks to enhance efficiency and transparency in delivering government support schemes to farmers.

National Natural Farming Mission Rollout

The Prime Minister will also formally launch the National Natural Farming Mission in West Bengal. For the 2026-27 period, the program plans to establish 346 natural farming clusters, covering an area of 17,300 hectares. This initiative is projected to benefit 43,250 farmers through the provision of bio-based inputs, comprehensive training, and robust market linkages, supported by dedicated bio-resource centres and 'Krishi Sakhis'.

Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana for Regional Development

Another key announcement includes the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana in four specific districts: Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, and Jhargram. This scheme is strategically aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, encouraging crop diversification, and enhancing post-harvest infrastructure, including vital storage and processing facilities in these regions.

Boosting Rural Connectivity with New Road Projects

To further support rural development, PM Modi will inaugurate 49 road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III (PMGSY-III). These projects, valued at over ₹213 crore, will span more than 315 kilometres. The improved road network is expected to significantly enhance rural connectivity, providing farmers with more efficient access to markets and facilitating easier reach to education and healthcare services in remote areas.
