NEET Re-Examination Preparations Underway
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the security and logistical preparations for the upcoming NEET UG re-examination, scheduled for June 21. The re-test follows the cancellation of last month's examination due to allegations of a question paper leak. Minister Pradhan emphasized the critical importance of maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and efficiency throughout the examination process.
The meeting involved senior officials from the Ministry of Education, various state governments, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and higher education institutions. Discussions focused on assessing overall examination readiness and establishing robust coordination measures ahead of the re-test.
Vigilance and Coordination Efforts
During the meeting, Pradhan urged all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and fully prepared to ensure a free and fair re-examination. He announced that officers designated by the Ministry would travel to all states to coordinate activities related to the re-examination process. These officers will report directly to a Command Centre, headed by the Director General of the NTA, to ensure seamless execution and oversight.
Focus on Student Welfare
A key directive from Minister Pradhan was for designated nodal officers from state governments to ensure that students are provided with all necessary facilities. This includes creating a stress-free environment, making arrangements for seating before the exam, and providing drinking water. Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Sanjay Kumar, reiterated the importance of putting students at ease. Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Vineet Joshi, highlighted the crucial period leading up to the re-examination, stressing the need for proactive coordination and strict adherence to all prescribed protocols.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Abhishek Singh, Director General of the NTA, affirmed the agency's commitment to working closely with all stakeholders. This includes district-level coordination committees led by District Magistrates, state police departments, and intelligence agencies, all aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the re-examination. Detailed deliberations covered examination preparedness, coordination mechanisms, security protocols, logistical arrangements, grievance redressal, and compliance with examination guidelines. States and Union Territories were advised to maintain close coordination to ensure a transparent and seamless process.
The meeting, conducted in a hybrid mode, saw participation from 222 attendees, including senior officials from states and Union Territories, nodal officers from centrally funded institutions, and vice-chancellors and directors of higher educational institutions nationwide. Participants collectively assured their full cooperation and commitment to a hassle-free experience for candidates.
Background to the Re-examination
