· · 2 min read

Reliance Industries will commission the first phase of its 40 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery gigafactory this year, Director Anant Ambani announced at the 49th AGM. The company plans to triple capacity to 120 GWh, aiming to become a global leader in lithium iron phosphate battery manufacturing.

Reliance Unveils Ambitious Battery Gigafactory Plans

Reliance Industries (RIL) is on track to commission the first phase of its 40 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery and cell gigafactory this year. Director Anant Ambani confirmed this significant development at the company's 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM), emphasizing RIL's aggressive push into the green energy sector. This initial phase is part of a broader strategy to scale up the facility's annual capacity threefold.

A Global Player in Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries

Ambani revealed that RIL has committed to expanding the gigafactory's capacity to an impressive 120 GWh annually. Once fully commissioned, this expansion is expected to position Reliance among the world's largest manufacturers of advanced lithium iron phosphate batteries. All necessary equipment for the initial phase of the facility has already been delivered to the site, ensuring the project remains on schedule.

Jamnagar's Green Energy Complex Advances

Further progress was highlighted at the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar. This sprawling 5,000-acre facility is evolving into one of the most integrated clean energy manufacturing ecosystems globally. Among its achievements, nearly 1 GWh of HJT (Heterojunction Technology) modules have been produced. The complex has also secured ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers) listing for its HJT technology, marking it as India's first for this advanced cell type.

Broader Green Energy Strategy

These developments underscore Reliance's comprehensive strategy to lead in renewable energy and battery manufacturing. The company's investments in large-scale production facilities for batteries and green energy components are crucial steps towards its long-term sustainability goals and its commitment to contributing significantly to India's energy transition.
