· · 2 min read

United Breweries Ltd (UBL) shares jumped 15% on Wednesday after the company reported a nearly threefold increase in consolidated net profit for Q2 FY27. Revenue also saw significant growth, driven by premiumization and cost efficiencies.

Shares of United Breweries Ltd (UBL), India's largest beer manufacturer, experienced a significant rally on Wednesday, climbing 15.07% to Rs 1316. This surge followed the announcement of the company's robust second-quarter earnings, which largely surpassed market expectations.

The strong financial performance led to a substantial increase in the firm's market capitalization, reaching Rs 32,282 crore. UBL's consolidated net profit for the September quarter nearly tripled, rising to Rs 134.81 crore compared to Rs 46.34 crore in the same period last year.

Revenue and Profitability Drivers

Revenue from operations for the September quarter of FY27 increased by 23.7% year-on-year, reaching Rs 4,623 crore, up from Rs 3,737.31 crore in the corresponding period a year ago. This growth was attributed to several key factors outlined in UBL's earnings statement, including strong volume growth, structural price increases, a focus on premiumisation, a favorable geographic mix, and an improved operating mix.

The company also reported impressive gains in profitability metrics. Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) grew by 108% during the quarter. The EBITDA margin improved by 480 basis points, reflecting enhanced operating efficiency and stringent cost control measures.

Analyst Outlook and Future Prospects

Brokerage firms have largely maintained a positive stance on United Breweries following the Q2 results. Nuvama, for instance, reiterated its 'BUY' rating, noting that gross and EBITDA margins rose significantly to 44.8% and 10.2% respectively. This improvement was driven by premiumisation efforts, strategic pricing, and productivity initiatives. Nuvama highlighted UBL's continued market share gains in profitable regions like Karnataka, with new canning capacity and commercial investments expected to fuel future growth.

Choice Broking has set a price target of Rs 1480 for the stock, indicating further upside potential. ICICI Securities also maintained its 'BUY' call and an unchanged target price of Rs 1300. The brokerage projects revenue, EBITDA, and PAT (Profit After Tax) Compound Annual Growth Rates (CAGRs) of 13.2%, 29.5%, and 33.1% respectively over FY26-28E.

“We remain positive on UBL as a play on India's under-penetrated beer market, with margins expanding sharply and management's mid-teens EBITDA margin goal looking increasingly achievable. State-level policy developments remain a key factor to monitor,” stated ICICI Securities, underscoring the company's strong position in the Indian market.

The positive sentiment surrounding UBL's performance underscores its strategic initiatives in cost management and premium product offerings, positioning it for sustained growth in India's dynamic beverage sector.
