Lost in Transit: A Pilgrim's Unintended Journey
Chaman Lal, a resident of Fatehgarh Gujran village in Ludhiana, had traveled to Amritsar on September 11 as part of a pilgrimage to the Golden Temple. His family later reported that Lal suffers from memory-related problems. During the pilgrimage, he became separated from his group at Amritsar railway station and inadvertently boarded a train bound for Bihar, eventually reaching Gayaji.
Neeraj's Compassion and ChatGPT's Aid
Near Gayaji railway station, a local construction worker named Neeraj noticed Lal, who appeared distressed and hungry. Despite his efforts, Lal could only recall the name of his village, Fatehgarh Gujran, and was unable to provide a full address. Neeraj, showing immense kindness, took Lal into his home, provided him with food, and sheltered him for four days while attempting to locate his relatives.
Stymied by the limited information and Lal's Punjabi language, Neeraj turned to technology. He spent approximately three days conducting various searches on ChatGPT and the internet, experimenting with different combinations of the village name. These persistent efforts eventually pinpointed Fatehgarh Gujran village in Ludhiana district, near Machhiwara Sahib.
The Journey Home and Family Reunion
Rather than sending Lal alone, Neeraj took personal responsibility for his safe return. He accompanied Lal on the train journey from Gayaji to Ludhiana and continued towards the Machhiwara area. Upon reaching the vicinity, Neeraj showed Lal's photograph to local residents. Master Krishan Lal, a local man, recognized Lal from social media where his photograph had been circulated during the family's search.
Krishan Lal promptly contacted Lal's family, leading to his grandson, Sukhchain Singh, arriving in Machhiwara to identify and retrieve his grandfather. Sukhchain Singh confirmed that the family had extensively searched for Lal in Amritsar and had reported him missing to the police, also circulating his image on social media.
