In a powerful address during the 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' event in Chennai, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, accusing its leadership and key institutions of systemic failure and cowardice. Gandhi asserted the opposition's firm resolve to protect India's democratic institutions and the voice of its citizens, even daring authorities to arrest protestors.
Gandhi Urges Youth to Continue Protests
Gandhi called upon the youth of India to continue their protests against the current administration, stating that the opposition stands united with them. He emphasized that the goal is to defeat those who, in his view, have undermined the Indian Constitution and democratic principles. "Youth of India, I am proud of you. Keep protesting. We are standing with you. We are going to ensure that this regime and the people who have attacked our Constitution are defeated," Gandhi declared.
I’ve been fighting Narendra Modi and the RSS for over a decade now. I understand them like you would understand your opponent - inside out, like the back of my hand. The core characteristic of these people is cowardice. Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Gyanesh Kumar and Ajit Doval, the villains of this story, are slowly finding the space closing around them. We are closing that space.
Sharing his sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi reiterated his long-standing opposition to Prime Minister Modi and the RSS, describing them as characterized by cowardice. He named several high-profile figures, including Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, as the 'villains' of the current political narrative, asserting that their influence is diminishing.
"Arrest Us All": A Direct Challenge to Modi
In a defiant challenge to Prime Minister Modi and the country's security forces amidst ongoing political tensions and protest crackdowns, Gandhi issued a provocative statement. "Mr. Modi, do whatever you want. Call out all the police: 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, whatever you want. Arrest all the leaders. Arrest all the young people. Arrest us all. We are surrounding you, and we are not going to back down," he stated.
Gandhi affirmed that the opposition possesses the necessary information and determination to defend the Constitution and ensure that past actions against India are not repeated. His remarks come at a time of heightened political friction and widespread youth-led demonstrations across the country, highlighting growing concerns over governance and institutional accountability.
