BigBasket, the prominent quick-commerce platform backed by Tata, has announced a significant leadership transition. Hari Menon, the company's co-founder and CEO, has stepped down from his executive position. He will, however, remain an integral part of BigBasket, continuing on its board of directors alongside co-founder Vipul Parekh, offering guidance and mentorship to the incoming leadership.
Taking the helm as the new CEO is Amit Nanda, formerly the Director of Selling Partner Services at Amazon India. Nanda brings over two decades of extensive experience across e-commerce, consumer goods, and consumer banking sectors. His 11-year tenure at Amazon saw him leading various operations and managing India’s third-party marketplace ecosystem, experience deemed highly suitable for BigBasket’s growth ambitions in the quick-commerce space.
Reflecting on the change, Hari Menon expressed his delight: “Having built BigBasket from its inception to its current position as one of India’s most trusted consumer platforms, I am delighted to welcome Amit as CEO. His deep understanding of consumers, strong track record of building and scaling businesses, and extensive experience across e-commerce and consumer sectors make him uniquely positioned to lead BigBasket on its journey ahead.”
Nanda’s appointment comes at a time of intense competition within the quick-commerce market, with players like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and others vying for market share. In his new role, Nanda is tasked with spearheading BigBasket's expansion and development, focusing on strengthening its position in quick-commerce, accelerating innovation across its businesses, and enhancing value and convenience for consumers.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Amit Nanda stated: “I am incredibly excited to join BigBasket and build upon the phenomenal trust it has established with millions of consumers across India. Combining BigBasket’s customer-first values with the trusted legacy of the Tata group creates a strong foundation for the future. I look forward to partnering closely with Hari and the entire leadership team to drive our shared vision and capture the massive growth opportunities before us.”
This leadership change is part of a series of executive-level adjustments at BigBasket. Recently, the company appointed Seshu Kumar Tirumala as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Arpit Jaiswal as Chief Growth Officer, signaling a strategic push for its next phase of growth and innovation.
